SOUTH SHORE ENTREPRENEUR: Company offers it all: landscaping, painting, paving and repairs

By BRAD KELLY
The Patriot Ledger

You might have to hire several different contractors to take care of the odd jobs that need to be done around your yard and the outside of your home.

But Go Curb Appeal offers an alternative. The owners of the Brockton-based firm are willing to tackle just about every outside task you need done.

Co-owners John DeYoung, 43, and Paul Devine, 45, both Brockton residents, started the company last year. Go Curb Appeal offers an array of services such as power washing walkways and steps, resealing driveways, repairing fences, landscaping and painting trim.

‘‘Our company keeps homeowners from spending $2,000 to $4,000 on different contractors to do these jobs,’’ DeYoung said. ‘‘We’re a one-stop contractor.’’

DeYoung handles all of the advertising, which consists of a Web site, brochures and word of mouth. He said he approached real estate agents to begin building a client base, and now half the business comes from them.

He said real estate agents can benefit from Go Curb Appeal’s services. DeYoung said that by adding a little paint, spreading some new mulch or patching up a walkway, a seller can make a house much more appealing.

DeYoung said they would like to franchise their company.

The two partners have been friends since the 1980s and have worked together over the years, which is why DeYoung said they’re good business partners.

They hope to hire more employees as the busy summer months approach and eventually franchise the business, they will have to show a few years of profits before they do.
